Biomedical Engineering Internship

Lille University Hospital

During my internship at the CHU de Lille, I was tasked with developing a new methodology for prioritizing the renewal of biomedical equipment based on their criticality. This involved analyzing existing prioritization methods and integrating a more nuanced approach that accounted for various risks, such as legal, medical, and operational factors.

  • Methodology Development: I designed a criticality-based prioritization model, combining data from AssetPlus with custom formulas to create a ranking system that identified which equipment should be renewed first. This model was tested and refined through collaboration with biomedical engineers, ensuring it met the specific needs of the CHU.
  • Process Automation: I developed an Excel tool that automates the criticality calculations and prioritization process, allowing for more efficient and accurate decision-making regarding equipment renewal.
  • Additional Projects: Alongside the main project, I corrected national equipment codes (CNEH) for hospital probes and created a procedure for the setup of Air Treatment Units (UTA), enhancing the overall management of biomedical equipment at the hospital.
  • Operating Room Experience: I had the opportunity to observe a surgical procedure, deepening my passion for this field.
    • Witnessed a surgical procedure performed using the Da Vinci robotic system. This observation allowed me to gain firsthand insight into advanced robotic-assisted surgical techniques and their application in modern medical interventions.

This internship provided me with valuable experience in the application of engineering principles to healthcare settings, as well as the opportunity to contribute to the optimization of critical hospital operations.
