Biomedical Workshop

Heart Lung Institute

During my internship at the Lille University Hospital's Heart Lung Institute, I was actively involved in the daily operations of the Biomedical Workshop, focusing on both preventive and corrective maintenance of biomedical equipment. My main role was to support the maintenance team in ensuring the availability and reliability of medical devices critical to patient care.

  • Preventive Maintenance: I performed autonomous preventive maintenance on a wide range of biomedical equipment, including ventilators, infusion systems, and defibrillators. I ensured these devices were operating within their required specifications, minimizing downtime and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Corrective Maintenance: I participated in troubleshooting and repairing malfunctioning devices, such as defibrillators and patient monitors, often diagnosing complex technical issues and ensuring a swift return to service.
  • Process Optimization: I contributed to streamlining maintenance procedures by developing control protocols and utilizing software tools like AssetPlus for efficient equipment management.
  • Operating Room Experience: I had the opportunity to observe various surgical procedures, solidifying my passion for this field.
    • Open-Heart Surgery: Participated in a procedure involving aortic valve replacement using an extracorporeal circulation (ECC) system. This experience deepened my understanding of ECC technology, heart valve implantation, and the detailed steps involved in open-heart surgery.
    • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI): Witnessed a minimally invasive cardiac intervention using TAVI. This exposure provided me with a thorough understanding of imaging techniques in interventional cardiology.

This experience allowed me to deepen my technical expertise in biomedical engineering while contributing to the proper operation of equipment.
